Coreopsis sp. [Glassy Mtn HP]
Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
COMMON NAME:
a puzzling Coreopsis [Glassy Mtn HP]
Coreopsis grandiflora, C. pubescens, and C. major var. rigida are all said to occur at this site, but there also appears to be another entity that doesn't fit neatly into those.
Early in the growing season, it resembles C. pubescens (pubescence, leaf divisions, width and shape of terminal leaflet), but as the season progresses it's less obviously distinguishable from grandiflora (thus few late season pics are displayed here)... Could this be a hybrid of C. grandiflora and C. pubescens? is it just ordinary variability of one or the other? or is it something that needs further investigation?

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
