Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
H. tunbrigense somewhat resembles Vandenboschia boschiana. It differs from V. boschiana in having the sporangia not extending beyond the deeply 2-lobed involucre (as opposed to having the sporangia exserted beyond the slightly bilobed, funnelform involucre). Read more in Weakley's Flora.

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
